At the start of the New Year, we welcomed Alan Thomas, David Lin, Farsheed Ibram, Injae Park, Natalia Usoltseva, and Sannan Hafeez, students from The University of Auckland for a summer internship.

As partners in the Microsoft Student Accelerator programme, the ADHB is one of a key group of large New Zealand organisations offering students workplace experience and insights into their future careers in IT, with students offered work placements through a competitive application process.

The enthusiastic team of six Information Technology students joined the Digital Enablement Team for 10-week internships as part of their practical placements towards undergraduate degrees, bringing fresh new perspective and energy, kick-starting two of our 2019 projects with problem framing, to ideation, with human-centred design.

The Digital Enablement Team, headed by Federico Herrera, leads transformational digital change at ADHB and this year, our interns joined the charge. As Fed says -

“We were privileged to have our interns’ help on projects and in turn, help our interns develop their skills, competencies, and workplace values.”

Over ten weeks, our team of interns worked on two key projects from concept to launch. The first-ever Starship Neonatal Intensive Care Unit App was developed and launched. Starship’s NICU Journal is designed for our youngest patients’ families to record the journeys of their littlest one through Neonatal Intensive Care and patient families are now downloading the App from the Google Play Store. We are about to launch on App Store.

The project to develop a digital solution to replace the current operational model with enhanced functionality is a product breakthrough for the Ara Manawa team, bringing the Digital Enablement and Design Teams together from concept to project. The project is still under wraps for now, with funding being secured for more development before launch.
